Today's Passage: 2 Timothy chapter 3

7 comments:

  1. 1. V.16 for me it meant everything we need is in the Bible. Everything for following God, being righteous, for correction, and it was inspires by God
    2. V.2 it stuck out to me, because we are already there. We are closer to the end than we think and it is a big and scary thought to wrap your head around
    3. V.7 we are constantly learning God's word. And about God. We have so much knowledge about him, yet we really are far from accepting it as the truth.

  2. 1. v 10 Do people see that I have a different way of living? Do they know what I believe? Or my purpose in life(should be to glorify God)? Paul said that others knew these things about him. I might say my purpose is to glorify God, but do others see me doing that through my actions? Do others notice a difference in the way I live my life? Something to think about.
    2. v 12 God doesn't promise an easy life to Christians. Paul brings out the fact that if you are going to live for God, you will face persecutions. Living for God doesn't come easy, it's a continual battle each day and will result in people disliking you or turning you away.
    3. v 14 The first part of this verse is such a great reminder "continue thou in the things which thou has learned." When I read this, i thought about camp/revivals and all the great messages and truths I learned. I need to continue to apply them in my life.

    1. vs 2: Wow. I believe everything in this verse describes me, and what a shame. Tonight at Revival we talked about hypocrisy; that it's not what you say that reveals who you are, but how you live. For me, I feel like I often live hypocrisy and exhibit the characteristics in verse 2 and I strive to change that with the Lord's help. I don't want to be like the rest of the world in these end times. I want to be what Paul later describes in vs 10.

    2. vs 12: Nothing is wrong with persecution. In fact, if persecution ceases to exist, Christians are failing in their callings. Persecution, to me, would be evidence that I'm living for God. I never want it to cease.

    3. vs 17: Could you imagine a) being a man/woman of God and b) being made perfect? So very few people in the bible were actually called "a man of God". That is definitely something we need to aspire towards. Not that works will do anything for us, but as James 2:17 says, "even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone". As believers, our faith should walk the talk so others can see God through us, and in turn draw us closer to that perfect goal.

  4. 2 Timothy 3

    1. V. 1-9 this list sounds pretty harsh. Yet, it is so true of people today. Not only are we commanded not to be like this, but also we are told to turn away from those who are. Let's surround ourselves with the right kind of people.

    2. V. 10 Paul was known for who he was, what he believed, how he lived, etc. It was Paul's main attributes. Do people view and know us for that. Do those who know you at least know what your about and who you serve.

    3. V. 12 It says ALL who live godly will suffer persecution. Hmm... So there will be persecution and I should not be surprised. People will make fun and treat me different. Though often times humiliating, when we are "persecuted" to the "nth" degree, we should rejoice. Many times it means we have passed the test. If you are in no way being persecuted it is true...that you are not living a godly life. God continue to open our eyes!

    1. Your last point was exactly what I was saying the other night!! If you're not persecuted you're not living godly.

  5. 2 Timothy 3

    1. Vs 4&5: Reading these two verses it is so easy to sit here and say that because I am a Christian that I would never and could never become like this but, as our world and the people in it are starting to turn more and more from God I see myself slipping more and more to be like them, and it is very eye opening to me of how easy it is to go the way of the world and to not even realize it.

    2. Vs 11: Wow! These words really gave me a reality check. As Paul wrote Timothy these words you could tell how he really wanted Timothy and all who read them that no matter what, NO MATTER what God will deliver us out of anything and every trial he tests us on. For me sometimes it is hard to put all of your faith in the Lord but reading this verse it defiantly gave encouragement that God put through whatever you're going and he surely will get us out.

    3. Vs 15: Thank God I grew up and am still growing in a church that loves the Lord! Knowing that when God sends us say a person who is ready to just argue their way to get their point across that "the Bible isn't the truth or God is not a loving God", whatever, we should be well prepared to show them, lovingly that the Bible and all in it is the truth given to us by a God who loved us enough to give us a chance to accept him and not forced us to or a God who gives many chances and never leaves in the dark!
