Today's passage: Romans 5

  1. 1. V 20 I love this verse. "Where sin did abound, much more did grace abound". No matter how big the sin, God's grace is bigger. We don't have to live in guilt, thinking that God can never forgive us because he can. No sin limits his grace.
    2. V. 12-19 By one man(Adam), sin entered into the world and judgement came. In the same way, through one man(Jesus Christ) salvation and justification was brought to all people.
3 V 3-4. We saw this theme in James as well, about enduring through hardness. I really like the way these verses unfold "glory in tribulations". Do I glory in tribulations? I don't think God's telling us to get all excited like "yes!! I get to go through something hard", but rather realize that the pain is helping us to grow. "Knowing that tribulation worketh patience", patience meaning endurance."and patience experience"-like i noticed in another version, they used character for experience."And experience hope". So basically suffering brings about three good things in my life: endurance, character, and hope.

  2. V2 Faith gives us access into grace-the grace needed for salvation. I love how over and over again we are reminded in Romans that if we add up all of our works we come up with zero towards what we need to be saved.

V2 &11 both mention rejoicing as a result of salvation. "Restore the joy of your salvation and uphold me with your free spirit" is a prayer David prayed and a prayer I'm praying today.

V20. Where sin abounded, grace abounded MUCH MORE! So thankful that God's grace extends beyond my sin.

  3. V3-4) "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope." This should be the verse I live by. How many times have I been angry with life about a situation, a person or just life in general? Too many times to count. This shouldn't be the way I react! I should thank God for putting this trial in my life to help make me a better person, not be selfish and only look inwardly. Personally, those verses have so much power and significance to me.
V7) "For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die." There are people in my life who do so much for me. Like my mother for example. She has always been there, she helps me through trials, and I feel like were friends. If her life was in danger, I would love to think I would sacrifice my life for her ( and I would ), but there's not may like that in my life. If I saw a random stranger getting beat to death, would I tell the people who were beating him to stop and beat and kill me instead. I don't think a lot of us will like the answer when the faced with the situation. God, being full of grace and mercy, even though we haven't done anything but sin against the One who created us. That is absolutely amazing.
V15) Verse 15 starts like "But the free gift is not....." I want to put emphasize on the FREE. Who doesn't like money, or their time? Everyone does. People value things that belong to them and are reluctant to give them up. Jesus died for our sins, and gives us eternal life for FREE. We did not do anything. I am called to be more Christlike and this just reminds me "to do for others like I would have them do unto me" and show Christ through my actions.

  4. I. (Verses 1-8) It truly is amazing to think that Jesus died for a sinner like me. Because He lives, I "can rejoice in hope of the glory of God" What a day that will be, when I see God face to face. :)

II. Glory in tribulation??? It sounds crazy, but it's true! As Christians we need to realize that God is always in control and that "all things work together for good to them that love God" Romans 8:28 Besides, if we never had tribulation in our life, how would we get patience and experience? God uses trials in our lives in order to change us for the better. He always has our best interest in mind.

III. (Verses 12-14) How was Adam a "figure of Him that was to come "? 1 Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive" Adam brought death into the world, and Christ brought life into the world.

  5. 1. Sometimes I feel like I have no hope in situations or hard times. I don't allow the tribulation to work patience and I become discontent quickly. Then I expect to feel hope? What am I thinking. Patience first.
    2. V. 7-8 Most people will rarely die for a good man. I doubt I would. God died for a wicked man. Me. All these years and it still hasn't sunk in. Why would He love me?
    3. Grace crushed the sin. However much we have sinned, God has forgiven more. In verse 18 "the free gift came upon all men"! Not an elect few chosen by God to be forgiven.

    1. V. 2 we stand in his grace. So true. He is soooo good! I'm really starting to get ahold of this grace message and it is changing my outlook on everything.
    2. V. 6-8 again, Amazing grace! Some would die for someone who had done something for them or if they owed there life to them but hardly anyone would die for someone who constantly spit in their face with their actions. That's what God did for us. He loved us while we were in our sin. Why? I don't know. But it truly is amazing!
    3. V. 20 where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. What a reminder! It should cause us not only to seek his grace but also display it or others to desire.

    1. vs.3: To glory in tribulation sounds like crazy talk, but since coming to MBU it seems like the patience I've learned in all of my past trials is paying off. It's a great feeling to know that God teaches us lessons in everything we do in life.

    2. vs.5: What honestly drew me to this verse was how poetic it sounded. The love of God is shed ABROAD in our hearts. How amazing.

    3. vs.19: This verse sums up sin and sacrifice in a nut shell almost. One persons obedience can change the lives of so many people. It's wonderful. Can I be that person? I know I sure want to be.
