V6 We should not serve sin. I can serve God or money. God or people-please. God or success. Serving anything or anyone but God is serving sin.
V21 The end of all sin is death. Over and over again we are pointed to this.
V22 Now that we are free, we can celebrate our eternal life. Instead of receiving what I deserve, I'm given life forever with the one person who loves me more than I can imagine.
V6 "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." I love this verse because it just feels so refreshing, for lack of a better word. It's just stop exciting to think that we aren't who we used to be before we had Christ living in us. That person is dead. Gone. Not coming back. And because of this, we no longer have to serve sin. Really, we don't have to sin anymore. Sin no longer rules our life, Christ does. He died so that this would be possible. It's such a simple truth, yet such an amazing one. If we have Christ, then we are no longer in bondage to sin. We don't have to sin anymore. When we sin, is a choice. God has given us the freedom from it, we had have to take it.
V11-12 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof." This kinda follows up on verse six. We should act as if, well, we are, you get the point, dead to sin, but instead alive to Jesus Christ. And since we are dead to sin, we should not let it control our lives, or we will give in to it. This whole thing means that we should not let sin have a predominant role in our lives. Why? Well, for one it's sin, which is bad. But also because we are free from sin, and we should be instead letting God have rule over our lives. We are supposed to be "alive" to him, and "dead" to sin. Sin is really a prison, and Jesus is the man that has a way for you to escape. Will you let him help you free yourself from the bondage of sin?
V21-22 "What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." This is pretty straight forward. It's asking "what good came from your sins?" We all know the answer to that. Zero. None. Zip. And the end of of those things is death. But, now that you are free from sin, and you are a servant of God, you have fruits that are honoring and glorifying to him. And also, the result of this is eternal life. Reading this and thinking about it is simple. Actually applying it to our lives is the hard part. And I'm not trying to be a hypocrite. I struggle a lot with that. I just how that next time I'm faced with a situation where I'm tempted to sin, I'll remember this verse, and choose to honor God.
Romans 6 1. Grace abounds. But that does not give us an excuse to sin. We are in no way allowed to abuse his grace. Just because we know we will be forgiven doesn't mean we should take sin lightly.
2. V. 6 we don't have to serve sin. Sin no longer rules. It's authority died on the cross. We shouldn't serve our old master.
3. We can either serve sin or be servants of obedience unto righteousness. We are called to serve God as we once served sin. We have been blessed with this amazing gift... Let's take advantage. Grace. Freedom. Life. Eternal life. We are spoiled
1. vs.2: How, if we are dead in sins, do we live in it? I don't know why I've never put these two statements together. When I became a Christian, my past sins were forgiven. It's now my responsibility to live the perfect Christian life, knowing that I will sin and will make mistakes. But that doesn't mean I have to "live in sin." God's forgiveness is graciously unfailing. "Being crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me." I don't need to live in sin, and that is so comforting! Don't you ever just get giddy with God's love and His blessings for us?
2. vs.15: CALLING ALL CHRISTIANS!! Just because you've been saved by grace doesn't give you the right to throw morals to the wind. You can't do anything you want just because you're saved. This is something that I need to be reminded of daily.
3. vs.23: I feel like the whole world knows this verse, but then at the same time they don't really know it. Come on people, if you sin (we all do and always will) and never accept Christ, what's going to happen? Death! Hell! Eternity in fire! Who wants that? It makes me sick to the point of tears when I hear people say "I'm going to hell but I don't care." My heart breaks for them. People want money and fame and happiness. But they want it for the HERE and NOW. Don't they know they can have it for FOREVER and EVER in eternity with God if they just accept His gift?? How I ache for them. God, use me I pray. If there's is anything God can use me for in bringing people to Him, I'm ready and willing. Send me anywhere!
1. I really enjoyed reading this chapter. Something that i found stressed in these verses was the fact that we are no longer under the bondage of sin. Because of the cross, are chains of sin we once had are no broken. 2. Because we have been set free from living a life of sin, why do we still live in the very thing that God has rescued us from? I once heard it put that it's like we play with the chains that have been loosed, instead of running away from them towards righteousness. 3. V 23 The penalty of sin is death. I'm so glad it doesn't end there though. The gift of God is eternal life. And the word gift really sticks out to me. I can't earn it or deserve it, he gave it to me of his own choice. I'm so thankful for the most wonderful gift I've ever received.
