Okay, so again I don't have three specific verses, but rather the whole chapter. The whole chapter seemed to be a continued thought. In verse 7, it starts out by asking if the law is sin? How could the Holy Word ( I think he's particularly referring to the Ten Commandments), be sinful? I think what he's saying is that sin existed in us through Adam and when the Ten Commandments created that our sinful nature wanted to rebel against what was good and just. "...when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died." We cannot blame the law for us being sinful; it was our fault. We are "of the flesh, sold under sin" and the only way we are saved is through God's grace. I want to end on these verses. They have stuck out at me ever since I first read them a while ago, and Paul speaks the truth. " For I do not do what i want, but I do the very thing I hate."
Romans 7 1. To most of us I am sure Romans 7 seems to be saying exactly what every other chapter said. If I am honest, I feel the same way. The law seems to be the main point so far. To think Paul would have to do this much elaborating tells me there was some real confusion on this subject in that time. But how much do we understand about the law? Are we still under the law? Should we obey the law? If so, why? Why even read the law then? What is the law? All these questions stumped me in the past but I was in a bible study where the teacher discussed this in great detail and it makes so much sense. Really, it puts a lot clearer perspective on being a Christian and what it's all about. 2. The law is dead for believers. We don't need to be caught up in check lists and striving to be be better. Anything and everything we do or don't do should be out of love for God. Like Paul says, what I try to, I end up doing the opposite. 3. The flesh wars. It is still a servant to the law. That won't change. We shouldn't try to make our flesh better. It sucks and it's gonna remain that way. We should be caught up in the spirit and constantly denying the flesh.
1. I love the comparison of life and death between the law and marriage. I often forget that as a Christian, I'm married to Christ and to be in sin is to commit adultery to God. That's terrifying. I would be devastated if I found out my (hopefully future) husband was cheating on me. I can't imagine what God must think when I turn away from Him.
2. vs.15: This verse slammed me in the face for several reasons. It's so true that when I want to live a godly life, I fall so short and end up right back in the very sinful state that I started in. It's also true that the sins that I hate I still commit. What kind of love, and what kind of life is it that I lead?? The Bible is filled (purposely) with so many truths that we can relate to. I still get excited with verses like this when I can say that Paul knows exactly how I'm feeling right now! That this great godly man struggles like I do. Wow.
3. Pretty much, there's no way out of sin on our own. Seriously, what would we do without God? I CANNOT IMAGINE what life is like for an unbeliever. What hope do they have? "I delight in the law of God." My heart overflows with peace and joy that can only come from God. My heart aches for those who just don't know. I want to be the Christian who not only "knows" the good, but "does" the good.
Verse 2- I don't normally think about marriage much but this verse brought to my attention on how, as a wife, I'm called to submit to my husband. That's a huge pill for me to swallow and to realize I have to follow 'under' someone else's authority. The Lord commands this. I should start now by submitting to Gods authority. Verse 6- we are new people now that we have been washed by the blood. The flesh doesn't have to control us unless we let it. Continue denying the flesh everyday. The Lord will give us strength through everything. It's amazing that Christ would give us a second chance in life when our sinful souls didn't even deserve a chance in the first place. We are so thankful for your grace Verse 15-16- I've been reminded a lot lately of watching what I do and say. It may not seem like it but, as Christians, people are watching us to see what we do and how we handle things. This is so important that we don't ruin their view of Christians. We can't fall into the worlds temptation and show unbelievers that we are 'just like them'. How will they ever know we are different if we act and do the same things they do?
1. V 5-6 Before we were saved we lived in such a way that yielding fruits of death. But because the old man is now dead, I know longer have to yield fruits of death, but instead my life will yield fruits of righteousness. There is a clear change in lifestyle when one becomes saved. 2. V 18 In my bible the sub-heading is "The struggle of the Christian life" and really these verses describe that well. The things I want to do....i don't do. The things i don't want to do...I do. God please help me in this struggle. 3. V 22-23 These verses remind of Galatians 5, talking about the spiritual war going on inside. We know how we should respond, but are flesh collides against that. And a war begins. We will struggle-it's apart of being sinful humans beings. But Christ will give us grace and help us have victory.
1. All the law does is convict and bind. But Christ can deliver us! Then our lives become all about bearing fruit and becoming more like Christ. It's a wonderful free life really. 2. Sin takes over when the law makes it known. Paul relates the presence of sin to being dead. Without Christ we can come anywhere near touching the holiness of the law. 3. I am the source of sin. There is nothing good at all in my flesh. It causes me to do things I hate. Flesh and God go to war. I'm in the chains of this body and who's going to save me? "I thank God through Jesus." V. 25

Hey man thanks for being faithful! Your thoughts are spot on with the Bible. I'm glad your following what Paul is saying.
