Today's passage: Romans 8

  1. V 18 I love this verse. Suffering seems so hard now, and a lot of times It's easy to lose hope. But we can look forward to a better place where there is no hurt or pain. If we have an eternal perspective about are present trials, we see they are nothing compared the everlasting joy and amazing time with God that we will one day have.
V 28 God has an amazing plan for each of our lives. Whether we can see it right now or not, God is working things out for our good. Sometimes having this outlook on trials can be difficult, but even when nothing else makes sense, we can hang on to the fact that God knows what he's doing.
V 35 and 39 Nothing can separate us from God's love. No amount of pain, person, or even yourself can break the steadfast love of God. If you think on that, that means that no sin that we commit can ever make God love us less. Despite our daily failures, his love remains. Truly amazing.

    1. Thanks Hope for your words. Especially your first point. It was a huge encouragement to me today.

  2. V6: To be spiritually minded is life and peace. When I feel a lack of peace, I'm being carnally minded. I need to be quicker to notice this and ask for the mind of Christ.

V11: We have the spirit in us that raised Jesus from the dead. Wow! I easily forget the power of the Holy Spirit!

V38-39: 2 of my favorite verses in the whole Bible! We are INSEPERABLE from the love of God!

    1. vs.18: Today I complained a lot and groaned over my "sufferings" and I feel like an idiot after reading this passage. So what if things don't go the way I want them to. It cannot compare to what God has for me. I need to focus on Him, and like Hope said " have an eternal perspective about our present trials."

    2. vs.28: I fell that sometimes I look at this verse and think that good things will just happen to me because I'm a Christian. But I have such a foolish selfish heart. God has a plan for our lives and it doesn't matter what happens, as long as we're in His will, everything WILL be ok. Isn't God good? That He would care to work things out for me; it's crazy amazing.

    3. vs.35-37: Here again: Who can separate us from the love of Christ? That's how big our God is; so big that literally no trial or suffering can separate us from Him if we truly believe in Him. Paul says "we are killed all the day long" and to me, that's a huge deal. But no, Paul says that they are "more than conquerors." And to think that my greatest worry right now is figuring out how to graduate on time =/ How utterly selfish of me. Again, "have an eternal perspective about our present trials" and things of this earth will suddenly cease to matter so much.

    1. V. 8 our flesh does not, can not, and will not please God. Being carnally minded is death but being spiritually minded brings life and peace.
    2. V. 13 Through the spirit we can mortify the deeds of the flesh. We are no longer in bondage to the flesh and it's desires. We have been adopted out of slavery to sin. We now must suffer through our flesh (past) and put it to death by allowing Christ to live in us.
    3. V. 28 I absolutely live this promise. I don't know what I would do without it. In difficult situations this is almost always the first verse to come to mind. God is good....He is in control...He had a purpose!
Also verse 31, If God is for us who can be against us. Another amazing promise that is so deep. We are told to hold on to the promises. Sometimes I forget what that really means. But this chapter is full of them

  5. So this next chapter really hit home for me. I have really been struggling lately, because as a lot of you know I moved down here from Michigan. I don't have many friends down here because I have different standards than a lot of people. So my struggles lately have been of the "flesh" as Paul talks about.
V6) I MUST remember to set my things that glorify God. That was our purpose on this earth is to glorify and represent Christ in everything we do. How many times I have caught myself becoming entangled in the desires of the flesh (money, love, selfishness, etc) is too many to count. I need to set my mind of Christ because that is what is truly foreverlasting.
V18) The trials of this life are nothing compared to the glory that is after this life. I have definitely gone through some major trials in life, and I try and thank God for those. Even though they seemed so unbearable when they were happening, I got throughout them by the grace of God and I came out a better person. I was taught some major lessons that couldn't have been learned otherwise. So the trials are all too the good of those who love Him.
V31) If God is for us, who can be against us? This is such a reassuring chapter to me. Everyone has those people that get you down, or don't treat you right or who are just plain mean. We should thank God for putting them in our life. They have NOTHING against us. We are the children of God and they aren't. We have the best gift that could ever be given, and they don't. We should feel sorry for them and God put them in our life for a reason. Everything is to the glory of God! No one can stand against us if we have God, our Eternal Father.

  6. Verse 2- something so simple of excepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and believing in His word is so twisted in the world today. Everyone tries to do it their way when there is a perfect plan set out in front of us for salvation.
Verse 4- this verse simply states that we are to walk after the Spirit and show others about our amazing salvation. And obey the word.
Verse 14- we are the children of God. This verse made me think of something... I know that if I disappointed my dad it would tear me up inside. So why is it that when we disappoint our Heavenly Father, we feel a little bad about it but then forget it ever happened? We need to change our mindset.
