Today's passage: Romans 9

9 comments:

  1. 1. God won't force our wills but he does mold us as clay. If we desire mercy, He will give it. If we reject his mercy and resist His will, then or hearts will be hardened.
    2. Israel focused to much on the law and couldn't again it because of their lack of faith. I can't be pleasing to God without having faith! That's not how it works.
    3. V.33 says Christ is Rock of offense abs nothing to be ashamed of. I need to remember this as I fight the daily battle against myself and the rest of the wicked world.

  2. Romans 9
    2. V. 17 God will not do great things through us for our glory. He will allow us to succeed and be big so he can show his power in us. It has nothing to do with who we are or what we can do, it's all about him. This should be a reminder for us to be humble.
    2. We have no power or authority over God. We are the formed not the creator. We are the clay, not the potter. Let's not try to fit God into our plans. His plans should be the focus. I want to be a vessel in Gods hands, completely yielded to him.
    3. V. 23 I'm loving this concept. God chose some of the worst clay and chooses to show his mercy to us. He goes to the extent of allowing us to show off his glory and power.

    1. vs.15: I find this verse interesting because it deals with God's sovereign right in granting mercy. Sometimes I will look at other people who are in similar situations as I and wonder why God is handling that person with what to me seems like "an easier hand." And often I find myself saying "God it's not fair!" This verse reminds me that because of His sovereignty, God can deal with me however He feels it would most impact my life. I should trust God completely with handling every aspect of my life.

    2. vs.21: This is a humbling reminder that God is in control. As the Potter, He can mold me any way He'd like. I should be ready and willing for any change that He brings to my life.

    3. vs.25: To me this verse shows God's forgiveness and redeeming love. He said He was call us His people and His beloved, even though we, in no way shape or form, deserve it. It was just encouraging to read about how loving God is, and the He really wants me!

  4. V9-14 What this seemed to mean to me is that God is all-knowing and all-powerful. Anything that he says will happen, will happen. And this is proven, for instance when he gave Sara a son. That was promised by God. And nobody but God had the ability to take credit for that, because the baby was not yet conceived. Same thing when he gave Rebecca a son. Also with Rebecca, he said that "The elder shall serve the younger." This was also said before they were born. And guess what? It came true. These are just the slightest bit of instances that prove God's power. He controls everything. Nothing is beyond his power. It's just amazing to think that a God who has power over everything, loved me and knew me by name before my great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great (I think you get the point) grandparents were even born. Like, why does he love me? I don't think that I'll ever be able to comprehend that. At least not in this earth. But it still amazes me to think about that.

V20 So, I have two thoughts that came to mind here. 1)Ok, yes, God did make us into the form, family, environment etc. that we are in individually. But also, he did not make us like robots. We have a free will. We can choose to serve him or not to serve him. And since God is just, every action we have take has a consequence. So in that respect he made us who we started as, and helps mold and form us along the way, but we have a very strong influence in who we turn out to be. And really, if we make God honoring choices throughout our lives and faithfully serve him, we won't turn to him and be angry about who we are, thinking we should be something more. Instead, we would be turning to him thanking him, knowing that we should be much less.
    2) So say you have a really tough family life, and you're just in an all around tough position that God chose for you. Most people would be angry at God for their "bad luck". Or, if you have a really good life, great family and make $100,000,000 a second (exaggerating just a little), then most people will glorify themselves and say "Look what I've become!" So from an ungodly person, God gets no glory from the single person. But we are not supposed to be like "most people". We are called to be different. God put us in our exact positions for a reason. There is no accident. No mistake. It was all divinely planned. What we need to do is pray and ask God to show us the reason, or at least how to use our situation to bring honor and glory to him. Maybe you're there to relate to someone else in the same position. That could be an opportunity to lead someone Lord. It was all planned before time started. We just need to trust in him.

  5. Sorry, had to post in two sections. Word limit.
V25-26 You may have a completely different take on this section then I do. This is just what I think of it. God loves everyone. He did, after all, create everyone. You wouldn't make something if you didn't like it, right? And just for the record, not showing God's love to another person is completely wrong, but that's not what this is about. It doesn't really matter, from an omniscient view, if one group of people tells another group of people that God loves them, but not the others. When Christ comes back, he will come back for his people. God loves everybody. "For God so loved the world (The world. Ya, that means everybody)..." He loves everyone more than we can imagine. "No greater love hath any man than this, than to lay down his life for a friend." "...that he gave his only begotten son..." He died for us. That biblically is the strongest love there is. And we still don't comprehend .0000001% of it. It's just that vast. But when God comes back, unfortunately he won't be coming for everyone that he loves. He'll be coming for his children "...that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life." His children aren't the ones he loves. His children are the ones who have trusted in his death and resurrection to conquer sin and the grave to be able to bring them into heaven with him someday. And I am so thankful to be able to say that I am one of his children.

  6. 1. vs. 17-18 God is in control of EVERYTHING. He used Pharaoh to show every one how powerful He is. He hardened Pharaoh's heart for a purpose. Pharaoh's heart was still in God's hand even when he refused to let the Israelites go.
    2. vs. 21 another verse about God being in control!! We are clay in His hands.
    3. vs. 31-32 The Jews didn't get it! They were trying to earn their way to righteousness by works. They were trying to work their way to God through all their rules and rituals. Jesus is the ONLY way!

  7. V14) Okay I believe something that not many people believe and anyone is welcome to talk to me about it. I believe that we have free will and that we all chose not to serve God in the beginning. "We are dead in our trespass and sins." But by the grace of God, He chose some to have mercy and compassion on. We cannot go around and say that it is not fair that God did not save everyone, because that is wrong! We are all sinful and all deserve death. For some reason, God chose some people to serve Him and I am very thankful for that.
V19-21) God has planned the entire universe and knows everything that will happen; He is sovereign. I am given a huge peace about this, because whenever I am in a trial, I know that God is control and will show me the way out and will guide me through it.
    3) I believe that we have free will, but we don't at the same time. Let me explain. God is sovereign right? Right. He knows everything that will happen and every choice I make. Now, when I'm presented with a situation, I do have free will. I can chose whether to do the right or wrong thing. That is entirely up to me, but God already knows what choice I will make because He is the Creator of all things. Again, we cannot blame God when we make a mistake, because it was OUR choice to make that mistake. Now you may say that well if God knew we were going to sin, why can't we blame Him? Because it was our choice, God didn't make us sin, He just knew what choice we were going to make. James 1:13 "Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one." We tempt ourselves.
I am thankful that God has His all-powerful hand on me and I am His.

  8. V14: God is just. We should never question his character.

V17: In Spanish it reads: "I have raised you up to demonstrate my strength through you and that my name would be announced throughout all the earth." When we see God working in us, strengthening us, or giving us any victory, this should be the first thing that comes to mind. That there is a purpose! That we can stand before the world and proclaim that through Christ alone we are where we are! Always be ready to give an answer...

V33: Believers will not be ashamed. We are on the winning side. I'm sure this was/is great encouragement to those who were/are persecuted for Christ's sake.

  9. 1. V 19-20 God knows what he is doing, he's got everything under control and has a perfect plan. We don't have to stress out about things going on in our life, because were in the hands of God, the creator of life. He's working everything out just as he wants it to be.
    2. V 22-23 Even though we might not be able to see the good in things God does, he has a purpose behind everything.
    3. 32 Faith is the only way to heaven. People may have lived a good life, but unless they had faith, it counts for nothing.
