Today's passage: Ephesians 1

6 comments:

  1. V11: God works all things after the counsel of his own will. I love the quote: "If I could see all the outcomes of all the choices out there, I would pick God's will"

V18: Paul prays that the believers would be given understanding and knowledge concerning the things of Christ. There are many things (like the trinity, eternal life) that are a mystery, but I'm glad that many other things are meant to be understood.

V20-21 Christ is set at God's right hand and given a NAME which is above all principality, power, might, dominion, every name that has or ever will be. Amen!

  2. 1. V. 5 Since before I was born, God's plan was for me to confess my sin, believe in him, and allow Him to save me and adopt me. His Will was for me to be saved. Every person that dies without salvation has only their own pride and stubbornness to blame for not excepting Gods will and free gift. V. 9 says He made known the mystery of his will to us. Why would He wants to save and dwell with someone as wicked as me? That's the mystery.
    2. V. 13-14 The Holy Spirit himself is the seal of or salvation. He comes in at salvation and won't ever leave. The word "earnest" used means "down payment. " At salvation, God frees us from the punishment of sin, the Holy Spirit allows us to be free from the power of sin, and one day we will be free from the presence of sin.
    3. V. 22-23 God the Son is set as the head of the church. We are the other members. Yet we are constantly going against the desires of the head. We take action and make decisions without consulting Him first. Help us be faithful members of the body of Christ; faithful to Christ.

  3. 1. V 7 We have received redemption, eternal life, acceptance, and forgiveness. All because of the blood of Jesus Christ.
    2. V 13-14 All along God had a plan for my life. He sent down his Son and in his perfect timing he redeemed me from my sin. He adopted me into his family, and changed my life around.
    3. V 21-23 God is above everything that has ever existed or ever will. He is greater than great. He is definitely worthy of our praise.

  4. v7: Without the shedding of Christ's blood forgiveness would be impossible and eternal death inescapable. Praise God we're redeemed!

v8: I happened to read this chapter of Ephesians out of my New International Bible. This verse used the word "lavished" when referring to Christ giving us wisdom and understanding. It made me think of one of Matt Chandler's "sermon jams" where he talked about the meaning of this word. "Extravangant...plentiful...over the top!"

v20-21: Christ is not dead, but sitting at the right hand of God ruling and reigning over us. There never has - nor will there ever be - a higher name than His!

  5. Ephesians 1
    1. V. 5 "According to the good pleasure of his will". Awesome truth. For one, God has a will. And secondly, that will is focused upon bringing glory to himself. So we can say no matter what happens, whether good or bad, It can bring glory to God.

    2. V. 7 "riches of his grace". Grace is one of those things I cannot comprehend but have experienced so much of. The New Testament is all about his grace. It is rich, and he is rich in it. Extremely powerful

    3. V. 11 God has a purpose in everything. We may not always know exactly what it is but we can know it will bring Glory to God. I wrote my first point before I realized how much this chapter echoes this. Life is for God. It is to bring him glory. If only we could get ahold of this and live solely to glorify him in everything we do.

  6. V 4- The Lord chose us, as wicked human beings to spare and give us eternal life. We ought to praise Him and be holy in the sight of the world. Everyday I forget to do everything to the glory of God. How can I forget to praise Him in every single thing I do?
V 6- we are adopted as children of God. I don't think I'll ever understand why The Lord would want a sinner like me to become His child. I am so thank that He did though!
V 13- most of the time I feel like I take my salvation for granted. I never pray and thank God for the person that lead me to The Lord. Or just to even thank God for being so merciful on my soul and saving me from the depths of hell. We need to have a more vertical focus on life than horizontal. Just stop and think during the day, on what God has done for your life and not what you can do for your own life.
