v10: On the heels of 2 verses that clearly explain that works don't get us anywhere in regards to our salvation, here is a verse that explains that works are what we were saved to do! His will is that we would use the spiritual gifts and natural talents He's given us to bring glory to Him.
V12: Those who are without God in the world are without hope. We see celebrities that look so happy. It is a front though. They are truly without hope if they are unsaved. I'm praying for more of a burden for the lost, even those who seem to have it all together.
V19-22: The local church is emphasized and makes me remember it's importance in our Christian walk. It's true that not everyone in it is truly saved, or truly follows Christ. However, God ordained that we would be part of one.
Ephesians 2 1. The beginning of the chapter... Wow what a reminder of how flawed, pathetic, and dis-functional we are without Christ. But I'm so thankful he took over in my life. I want to continually give him control of every aspect
2. V. 5 We were in dead in our sin. God brought us to life. Who says miracles don't happen today? The dead are coming to life. Rich mercy, great love, and matchless grace God displays
3. V. 8-9 Our salvation rests in Christ alone. Works aren't the cause (reason) for which we saved. Being saved is the cause for which we do works. We are his workmanship. Let's don't undermine works. It is our calling. We just have to remember they are not to save or ensure salvation.
Vs. 5: We were dead before God saved us. We were on our way to an eternal Hell. But God loved us so much that He gave us His grace and saved us.
Vs. 8-9: God saved us because He loves us! There was NOTHING we did to deserve Salvation and there is NOTHING we can do to earn it. God gives it to us through Grace. We have no reason to boast because without God, we would be in Hell. God is the one who saved me! I didn't save myself!
Vs. 19: We are now fellow believers. We have the same Father in Heaven. We are of the same household. There should be no enmity between the brethren. We all have access to the same God. We should love each other in Christ because we all (Christians) are apart of His family!
1. Twice it is mentioned that salvation is spiritually being brought from death to life. Sometimes I wonder how people can be so smart or intellectual yet still deny God. Since they have chosen to remain dead to God they cannot know the truth. 2. V. 9 The very statement "I'm a good person" is refuted by this verse. By saying they're good, they are simply boasting as a further display of their pride and unworthiness. 3. V. 20-22 God has built up the church of believers with Christ as the cornerstone. Every child of God has a place in this great building and temple. Think about it. We are the temple of God. Before Christ, the temple contained the ark of the covenant that held the Holy Spirit and could only be accessed once a year by the high priest. Now we are the temple and have access to him every minute. Wow.
V 5- Thank you Lord for you grace. We were dead in our sins until Christ came for us. We are not saved by our good works but simply and clearly by our Lords grace. Your grace is definitely enough! V 12- we truly are nothing without God. Everyday He gives us blessings that we don't even notice. When I'm stuck in a situation I try to stop and think... What if God had decided to not create the world or give me another day to live. Then I realize that whoever and whatever I'm having a problem with is just a small blessing in disguise. V 14- God is our peace. In this verse it mentions that He has broken down the middle wall of partition between us and Him. Giving us a way to strive to be more like Him everyday. And when we think He's not there, He is always there to help us. If we will just trust in God, He will give us the peace we need.
1. v. 4-5 In the beginning of this chapter it talked about the sinful way we used to live. Then this verse reminds us of God's amazing love towards us. "Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)" I think of those who were there that beat him and nailed him to the cross. Even in the midst of there sin, he loved them and died for them. But really, I'm the one who nailed him there. My sin caused him to have to die on a cross. Even though he knew I would continue to sin against him, he loved me. Despite my sin, he saved me. Wow. 2. v. 8-9 Reading the verses about how God saved me while I was in sin helps me understand these verses better. It wasn't like God looked down and saw what a "righteous" life I was living. I didn't earn my salvation by being a "good person", because besides Christ, good people don't exist. Nothing about the love God has poured on my life has anything to do with me. But all to do with him. 3. v 12-19 Before we were saved are life was described by "having no hope and without God". But because of the blood of Jesus Christ we are now have access to God. Through the cross God reconciled us and destroyed the barrier between us. We are no longer strangers, but adopted into his family.
