Today's passage: Ephesians 5

5 comments:

  1. v4: This verse kind of restates part of Ephesians 4:29. Our conversations should be pure and without filthiness. I think Paul was trying to make a statement about the way we speak. Like Pastor said tonight, our mouths proclaim the content of our hearts.

v15: Walking circumspectly means to walk carefully or wisely. As Christians, our walk is constantly being monitored by the world. One foolish move and our testimony can be ruined. Christ commands us to be wise, which involves walking with the Spirit. If we walk with Him, He will give us the wisdom we need.

v18: This verse has become pretty important in my life. Even at a Community College, alcohol and the pressure to drink is thrown in your face. Today, many followers of Christ believe that drinking on occasion is acceptable and it is a rising controversial topic. However, this verse pretty much says it all - we aren't to be influenced by wine.

  2. Ephesians 5
    1. V. 4 it talks about all these sins we as Christians should not be associated with. It says don't let these be named among you, rather giving of thanks. Contentment. If we are satisfied with what God has given us and where he has placed us we won't have to seek after the pleasures of this world. Let's be thankful
    2. V. 16 redeeming the time because the days are evil. There are so many ways I do not redeem the time. I often get focused on foolish temporal things. I want to grasp what it says in verse 17. Understanding the will of The Lord...
    3. V. 18 be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with spirit. Being filled with the spirit to the degree that he has control over our body....amazing. But I'm not there honestly. I am afraid I am more filled with Chase than filled with Spirit. I pray God will humble me and cause me to be yielded to the spirit to this degree

  3. 1. V. 8 You have been saved from darkness. You have been changed. You have been redeem. Now live like it.
    2. 16-19 I find some great advice in these verses, a few stood out to me..redeem the time, follow God's will, and worship God through music.
    3. V 20 I def. cant say that I am "thankful in all things". Honestly, it's more like i'm unthankful in all things. Each trial and hard circumstance..do i patiently endure with a thankfulness for how God is working in my life? Or what about even the daily annoyances and situation we run into? Be thankful for everything.

  4. 1. V. 16 Redeeming the time in an evil world. This world has made music into something demonic and sexual. We can redeem it and make it beautiful and uplifting. This world has made marriage seem like a simple piece of paper and made sex seem dirty and casual. We can redeem them and make them sacred and lifelong. They make "religion" seem weak and fake and turn God into a punch line and curse word. We can live out the proof of his existence, power, and love.
    2. v. 18-20 Again Paul emphasizes the importance of being filled with the spirit. He uses the illustration that we should be controlled by the spirit the way a drink person is controlled by their "spirits".
    3. V. 21 Before we are told to submit to husbands, parents, or bosses, we are told to submit one to another. Selflessness is such a constant struggle. To put others before myself is sometimes the hardest thing in the world. The old acronym still make sense though; J-O-Y is Jesus-Others-You.

  5. V20: Giving thanks ALWAYS for ALL things! How difficult for a prideful person like me to always have something to be thankful for and to find God in everything that is happening. Praying for a grateful spirit.

V24: Wives, be subject to their own husbands in every thing. Whoa. Very contra culture. Even Christian culture. Truth I needed to be reminded of.

V33: Let the wife see that she reverence her husband. Again, this is a rare art form. Reverencing, honoring, cherishing, loving, no matter what kind of day I had. Not dependent on the recipient's worthiness, but as obedience to Christ.
