V4: Fathers, and mothers! Provoke not your children to wrath. So easy to do, without even thinking twice. Lord, give me victory in this area.
V10-14 The word "stand" stands out. We are to stand against the devil. We are not to take him on sitting down. The armor of God is one of action.
V19: Paul's prayer request for himself is that he would boldly proclaim the gospel. Easier to be quiet. Politically correct to be quiet. Biblical to be bold.
1. V 6-7 Often times I'll find myself serving/working a certain way when I know people are around. I volunteer for stuff or work extra hard for a shallow reason...people. It's ironic really, we volunteer to serve so that people think were serving God. Thats screwed up. We should be willing to work just as hard when no one is watching or volunteer to serve in the behind the senses areas. Because after all, it's for God, not man. 2. V 10 "Finally my brethren by strong in the Lord and in the power of his might" It's interesting how this verse comes before the verses talking about standing against temptation. Without his strength, we couldn't do it. Only through his power and strength will we be able to live a godly life and turn down temptation. 3. V 11-18 God doesn't just throw out there and leave us on our won. If he did, we wouldn't stand chance. God has given us so much to help out as illustrated in these verses(referred to as amour). Temptation is real. Broken and defeated people are everywhere. It is possible though, to "stand firm". When I read this passage it reminded me of these verses in Psalm 91 "a thousand shall fall at thy side and 10 thousand at thy right hand. Because he has set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him. He shall call upon me and I will answer him, I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him."
Ephesians 6 1. Christians are not to be sloppy in anything they do. Whether it's school, work, or simple everyday tasks we should do it whole heartily to Christ. All service should be done to God and not to man. Let's reach the potential we have in Christ 2. V. 10 be strong in The Lord and the power of his might. God wants us to be strong, armored, and fighting against the devil. We act like we have time. Like there is a day when we will need to be strong spiritually and committed to God. Yet, the devil is full pledge destroying....tomorrow is too late to get serious. 3. V. 18 praying always. Wow wouldn't say I'm there yet or even have that mindset. God wants us to be on high alert of the rulers of the darkness of this world. We must draw nigh to him
V1-3 So most of you will think I'm an idiot for picking such obvious verses, but I'll do it anyway. Ok, so if you haven't noticed, your parents are older than you. Shocker, isn't it? And with that age comes experience. Our parents know more about the world and how it operates than we do. We have to respect that. They have a better idea about what's good and what's not for us than we do. Yes, they are still human, so they'll never be perfect, but we need to listen to them and accept their guidance, because it will help us in the long run. V5-7 In modern terms, would interpret this as meaning boss and employee. So, if we are working for someone, we are really working for them, and serving God. God is watching us all the time. Nothing we do is hidden from him. So, if we are at work, and only work when the boss is around, then though they might think we are doing a good job, God knows the truth and we dishonor him. We need to do everything for the glory of God, not just to look good in front of others. V13-18 All these things that are referred to as the armor of God, we need to know and practice every day, so that when a certain trial comes, we will have the ability to stand and bring honor to God in it. Being a Christian isn't a part-time thing. It doesn't only apply on Sundays. We are always Christians, and we need to show it. We need to let these things shine in us everyday so that other people can see Christ in us.
v1-2: Obedience is something I used to connect with little kids, but now that I'm getting older I'm realizing that it's harder to obey my parents as a college student. I've been blessed by God with great parents who want the best for me, but when I get the mindset that I'm "mature" and can make my own decisions I'm setting myself up for failure. When I outwardly disagree with my parents, I'm not only dishonoring them, but God as well.
v6-7: "Not with eyeservice as menpleasers." What are your motives behind "good deeds?" Are they honoring God, or bringing attention to yourself? It's scary to think about my past motives. The goal behind our service should be to glorify God, not to impress man.
v19-20: Recently, people have been making it very clear that they think I'm too "straight forward" when I talk. It was actually pretty embarrassing, but it's encouraging to know that God can take a "straight forward" attitude and turn it into boldness for Him. These verses encourage my heart because I know God isn't finished with me yet and is continually changing me to better serve Him. I want to be bold in what I say and do, not backing down from the opportunities Christ has given me.
1. V. 5-7 In our workplace, along with everything else we do, we should let serving Christ be our motivation. When we strive to please men, we will never be content or good enough. 2. V. 12 Paul must have loved sports because here, in addition to using running as a metaphor, he compares our struggles to wrestling. When we fight sin, we will be so much more effective if we are wearing Gods armor. Also, I can fight with confidence under the protection of these things. 3. V. 18 When I pray, do I really watch for it to be answered? And when it isn't answered do I persevere and keep praying and keep watching? Prayer has no power without faith, something I lack big time.
