Galatians 1 1. V 4 Jesus Christ gave himself for OUR sin. He came to fulfill the will of God. He came to deliver us. He did all this, yet we still won't give up some of the smallest things for him. We love to live life for our own pleasure. After knowing all he did, we still live the way we want to. The least we could do is give our life to him and use everyday to say "thank you" through serving him. 2. V 10 I choose each day, do I want to please others and look for their approval in the things i do, or do I want to please Christ? Really, pleasing Christ is all that will matter in the long run. 3. V 23 These verse really brings out the transformation that took place in Pauls life. Christ can use anyone, despite their past. Even with some of the most "hopeless" seeming people, Christ is not limited. He has the full ability to change any heart.
V4 This verse says "according to the will of God." Sometimes, I think we forget that God had a choice when he came to die for us. It was his will, not his assignment, or duty. He didn't have to by any means. After all, we are his creation, so he owes nothing to us. Yet, despite that, he still came down from all his glory in heaven to become one of us and die while hanging by the nails in his hands on the cross, so that we can be with him one day. I think that's so amazing. He loves us that much. V10 As humans, our flesh naturally wants us to do wrong. But as Christians, we want to do what is right and honor the Lord. We have to choose which one we will do, because we can only do one. We can choose to please men, our we can choose to please God. Pleasing men is easy, and may yeild temporary, worldly rewards, but pleasing God is difficult, but brings many, eternal rewards. We need to purpose that we will serve God. V23 This just shows how God had the power to change anybody. In the verses before this one, Paul talks about how he was changed from the evil, Christian hating Saul, into the godly, Christ like Paul. And all this was done without almost any human influence. Just God and Paul. I think that we forget just how much power God has, and try to take to many things into our own hands. We just need to let go and trust God, because he is truly in control.
Ahh Galatians. One of my favorite books and perhaps the one I've studied most.
1. The people of Galatia, not long after Paul had established them, quickly strayed from the true gospel doctrine to some perversion. Some teachers were excluding grace from salvation or mixing grace with the law and works. Paul doubly emphasizes that anyone preaching something different than that revealed to him should be cursed! Those are pretty strong words but once we believe something other than the truth, we cannot please God or help others get saved. 2. Paul goes on the verify his claim of doctrine. It's not something he came up with or was taught. Paul had a genuine experience on the road to Damascus where God revealed Himself to Paul. Paul then went to reveal the same truth to others. Not a fabrication of man but a revelation of God. 3. V. 22-24 God can change anyone. Paul was a persecutor of the church! There is nowhere His grace can't reach. Also, God can use a sinful past to create and amazing future and touch hearts through a powerful testimony.
Galatians 1 1. V. 10 Great concept. We are not serving Christ when we seek to please men. Sadly, we often are more concerned about pleasing man than pleasing God. I pray I will one day be solely focused on pleasing God regardless of what man thinks. 2. God persuades. Many times we try to be God in someone's life. We try to convict them, judge them, and condemn them. God is the only one that can do these supernatural things. Like Paul said, the gospel is not of man. Let's be used of God rather than try to be God. 3. V. 23-24 It's amazing to me how big of a transformational Paul went through in an instant. He went from one day being one of the biggest persecutor of the church to the next being one of the churches biggest assets. God was really able to bring himself glory through Paul's life.
Vs. 10-12: In these verses, Paul states one of the reasons behind why he preaches the gospel. Not to please man but to serve Christ.
Vs. 13-16: Paul talks of his conversion and how that in times before now (when he is writing this book), he persecuted the church of God and he wasted it. But then he goes on to say in verses 15-16, that God's purpose for Paul's life was that Paul would be saved and that he would preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. (Jeremiah 1:5 could be speaking about Paul directly)
Vs. 24: In verse 23, he states again how he persecuted Christians but now he preaches that same faith which he tried to destroy. But then in verse 24, he says "And they glorified God in me." That is something that I would honestly love to happen in my life. Like wow...this person just gave God glory because of my testimony and how much God has changed me. Praise the Lord for his patience and mercy with me.
v10: Being a servant of God will not make me popular. Being true to my faith in Jesus Christ and sharing the truth is so much more than what any one thinks of me. I need to always remember this!
Paul's multiple allusions to his testimony-his flashbacks into what he once was-a persecutor of the Christians, show his humility. He gave all glory to God always for his conversion. For saving him from the sinful life he lived.
V15: He mentions being separated from his mother's womb and called by God's grace. Amazing to think that though he was called of God before he was even born, that in God's plan, he would not accept him as Saviour as a child.
