Today's passage: Philippians 3

  1. 1 .A pursuit of God is what I see all throughout the 1st part of this chapter. I was challenged to 1. Focus on Christ and becoming more like him and 2. Wholeheartedly commit to "knowing God" and strengthening my relationship with him.
    2. V 13-14 Don't be caught up in past victories or get discouraged by yesterdays mistakes, but live for Christ today. Press forward, keep your eyes on him, and make today count for Christ.
    3. V 19-21 "who mind earthly things. For our conversation is in heaven" We should be eternally minded in the way we live now. As we go through this life, our hope is in Christ and the fact that he will one day come again. He will change us to be like him and we will get to live with him forever with no more pain or sin. It will definitely be awesome.

  2. V8 Paul says here "...I have lost all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ." That's the mindset we need to have. Earthly things really don't matter at all. All that matters is what you do for Christ. We're not going to get to heaven and talk about how much money we had or when those new shoes came out. We'll be glorifying God and singing his praises all day long. What we do for him is what really counts in the end.
V10 Every day we should be striving as Paul did to get closer to the Lord. I want to know the power of his resurrection. Just think how amazing that is. He rose from the dead! Not as a zombie, either, but as God in a human body. That's so miraculous. And the fellowship of his sufferings. Even as he hung on the cross he was thinking of us. He even asked God to forgive those who crucified him because they were blinded. I want to know God like Paul did.
V21 It's incredible to know that one day we'll be in perfect bodies. We'll be living with the creator and master of the universe. And he cared about us enough to come and die on a cruel cross to make that possible. Something that I think about pretty often is why. Why did he care that much about us. And if I can, that will be the first question I'll ask him when I meet him there.

    1. V. 1 rejoice in The Lord. Crazy how bad most of us fail in this area. We as Christians can act so miserable. Regardless of circumstances we can rejoice in The Lord. We have hope, peace, purpose, eternal life...what more could we ask for. Let's rejoice in God
    2. V. 7 what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Paul said there is no room for confidence in the flesh. If anyone had an up bringing that was "successful" and to be desired it was Paul. Yet he said all that was good for his temporal life is loss for Christ's sake. The time he spent on himself rather than for Christ was loss
    3. V. 14 Paul stayed the course. He pushed through (by Gods grace) all obstacles and sprinted for the finish line. Let's have that drive in our spiritual walk

  4. 1. Compared to Christ, all things are loss. Nothing matters. To lose possessions and things here on earth shouldn't be a big deal to us, but they are dung in our striving for Christ.
    2. V. 13 has always been one of my favorite verses. If there's something in my past, I need to let it be and push on. Whether it be something I regret, something I can't let go of, something I wish I still had, or something I thought could've made me happier, I have to trust that God is a total forgiver and a perfect planner. I feel that sometimes I look back because it's as clear as day and I'm scared to look forward because the future is foggy. I have to trust in Christ's sovereignty and press on.
    3. The enemies of the cross are given three attributes: their god is their belly, they glory in their shame, and they mind earthly things. In today's world is all about comfort and feeling good and letting your emotions rule your actions. There's so much decline in self-respect, modesty, and sober-mindedness. And we are taught that anything non-earthly is fiction. There are plenty of enemies we have to face and knowing your enemy is important.

  5. V13: Forgetting those things which are be behind. Refusing to dwell on the past and trusting that God has worked/is working all things together for my good.

V19-20: I should not be consumed with things on this earth, because my citizenship is not here, but in heaven.

V21: He is able to subdue all things to Himself. I love the verses that proclaim the power of God!
