Today's passage: Romans 12

  1. Romans 12
    1. V. 2 being transformed in our daily walk is no easy task. It must be done through the renewing of our minds....Teachable, open, and yielded to the Holy Spirit while spending time in his word.
    2. V. 3 Paul encourages us not to think highly of ourself. Not only did Paul preach this but he lived it. My desire is to be like Paul (ultimately Christ of course). I want to be marked by humility and a servants heart. Unfortunately, I tend to be very proud and self-centered. I'm praying that God will help me change this.
    3. V. Abhor that which is evil, cling to that which is good. As Christians we have compromised so much. For some reason we no longer HATE sin, nor do we cling to that which is good. Neutrality seems to be the goal. Neutrality is not pleasing to God...

  2. 1. Vs. 1.... We need to cmpletely offer ourselves unto God. No if ands or buts about it! He gave His Son for us. He gave us His all. Because Jesus died for us, we shouldl live for Him.

    2. Vs 2... "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind". We should stand out in this
world as followers of Christ. We are not called to be Jesus' "Secret Agents"! :P. How do we stand out, though??? By renewing our minds. "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through
    Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:6-7

    3. Vs 4-8... We are the body of Christ. And as such, God has given each of us a Spiritual gift. It's our duty as Christians to discover what our spiritual gift is and use it to bring God glory. You might be the hand or the legs of Christ's body. Or you might be the pinky toe! Just remember God has a great plan in store for you. So give Him nothing less than 100%.
"Expect great things from God and attempt great things for God."

  3. V 9 I remember a few years back at the Anchorage, Pastor Mike Washer speaking on the this verse where is says to "abhor evil and cleave to that which is good". He said it means to turn completely away from sin and run towards righteousness. It means to destroy sin, before it destroys you.
V 10 Not only does God want us to love others, but through love to prefer others. Often that is the reason behind broken relationships is the fact that we want life to be comfortable and we want to pursue happiness. If anyone gets in the way of that, we flip out. But here, God is saying that we should put others before our wants and desires.
V 12 Endure trials. Pray consistently.

    1. vs.3: "not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think..." Every time I read this verse I'm humbled by the truth of it. I don't know about you, but sometimes I judge people way too much. I also let pride have its way in my life, and it will puff me up if I don't have the right mind-set about things. I too want to be like Paul, a humble servant.

    2. vs.9: This is an awesome verse to memorize and live by in my opinion. This "love" refers agape love. "Let love be without dissimulation." So let love be without hypocrisy; let it be unfeigned. "Abhor" means to detest utterly. "Cleave" is to glue. So...Love without hypocrisy, detest utterly the evil things in this world, and glue yourself to good, godly things. Dissecting words is so enlightening!

    3. vs.18: Live peaceably with all men. This is hard for me because sometimes I can get extremely agitated with people or lose patience quickly. However, I must live in peace. Peace in this world depends on Christians (of course in God's will). Just think, this world, the lost, can never receive true peace in their lives without God. We have to maintain the Peace so they can SEE a difference; so much so that they can't live without it. It's our job as Christians to spread the gospel. It's our job to live in the Peace of God. All of it is for His glory

  5. V9: Abhor evil, cleave to that which is good. Literally glue myself to good. If I truly hate what is evil, then it will be easier to in tune with everything good.

V13: Distributing to the needs of the saints. Keeping an "open hand" mentality. Everything I have is from the Lord. Being willing to be used by him to meet other's needs is my goal

V16: Ouch. Don't think you know everything. Don't assume you have the answer. These are good reminders for me.
